THOMAS BRYDEN of BRECHIN c1840

 (c1837 onwards)

A Thomas Bryden is noted as a Scottish clockmaker in 'Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World' Vol 2 by Brian Loomes at the nearby coastal town of Johnshaven and we must assume that they are one and the same.  This delightful small oak 8 day longcase clock has a swan neck pediment with centre finial, brass capped pillars and shaped trunk door.  The hood also has side windows which is a nice feature that enables the movement to be seen working without the removal of the hood.  The painted white dial has a nesting bird within the arch and subsdiary second and date dials.
